Adsorption of Cr(III) from an Aqueous Solution by Chitosan Beads Modified with Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS)

This study is to prepare chitosan beads modified with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) effectively remove Cr(III) from an aqueous solution. The characterizations of SDS-chitosan by scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) and photoelectron (XPS) proved the successful synthesis adsorbent. adsorption on SDS material was investigated varying experimental conditions such as pH, contact time adsorbent dosage. maximum capacity for estimated be 3.42 mg⋅g-1. results kinetics isothermal models show that process conforms pseudo-second-order Langmuir isotherm models, indicating single-layer chemical adsorption. Thermodynamic analyses indicate endothermic reaction. These new has obvious application prospect eliminate Cr(III).
